Rights Respecting Steering Group

On Friday 10th June, Miss McAlpine and Mrs Hariram hosted Granton's first ever Rights Respecting Steering Group meeting.  This special group of children and adults will help Granton as we all work towards achieving the Rights Respecting Schools Award.  The children were especially selected by their teachers to be representatives on Granton's Rights Respecting Steering Group, as a result of their fantastic effort in all of their Children's Rights learning this year.

After the children and adults made name badges to identify themselves and introduced themselves to each other, before discussing what a ‘Steering Group’ might be. Lauren explained that it was letting the world know about Children’s Rights and Mercedes told us that it was discussing about Children’s Rights and then promoting it around the school.

We played a game based around the articles. Each member of the group had a Children’s Rights article and the aim of the game was to convince our partner that their article was the best given reasons why. Playing this game familiarised the children and adults with the articles again. Interesting discussions about how all of the rights link together came up and that it is difficult to say that some rights are more important than others.

We started to think of ideas about how we can promote Children’s Rights around the school and we look forward to continuing this at the next meeting.
