Green Team visit to Southbank Roof Garden
As Granton Primary School is an associate school with The Southbank Centre, the Green Team were invited to visit The Queen Elizabeth Hall rooftop gardens to take part in some exciting, long-term projects.
Our first visit was on Tuesday, so we wrapped up very warm and travelled to the garden by train. It was really amazing to stand on the roof of an important building in London; surrounded by sights such as Big Ben, the London Eye and the River Thames; yet feel as though we were in the country.
The rooftop garden was full of plants, trees and planters ready to receive seeds and felt like a calm, peaceful place to be.
The Green Team were asked to help plant a wildflower meadow and crocus bulbs, which will look fabulous and colourful in the spring when we return to see them. We also helped to make hay bales from the cut, dried grass, which will be used to feed the goats at Vauxhall City Farm over the winer.
Finally we created pictures of a bulb, using collage and pencils.
What a fantastic day the Green Team had, with lots of fresh air, gardening experiences and learning. We can't wait for our next visit on 17th December.
