Granton's Park Run
International running movement 'Park Run' has teamed up with London youth sports charity the London Youth Games Foundation in an innovative new partnership driven by a desire for better effectiveness in getting young Londoners active.
The London Youth Games Foundation, which runs Europe’s largest youth sports festival, is ideally positioned to reach hundreds of thousands of young Londoners at all socio-economic levels. During the 2014/2015 season, over 130,000 participants were involved in the London Youth Games pathway across all 33 London boroughs; and 2014 marked the one millionth London Youth Games participant.
Rugby superstar and former London Youth Games athlete Maggie Alphonsi, London Youth Games Chief Executive Jon Hughes and parkrun CEO Nick Pearson were joined by pupils from Granton Primary School in Lambeth to celebrate the partnership and announce a jointly-hosted parkrun open to all at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on Saturday 2 July 2016, the first day of the London Youth Games Summer Finals weekend, to celebrate the partnership.
London Youth Games alumna and England Women’s Rugby World Cup winner Maggie Alphonsi, who started her competitive rugby-playing career representing Enfield at the London Youth Games, said: “We’ve had a great morning taking part in running activities here at Granton."
